Contending with Neuropathy

by John T. Linnell
29 July 2006

I have had Neuropathy since December 1991.  It was caused by Aspartame poisoning.  Starting 1 October 1991 I started drinking Loblaws Key Lime pop. It was loaded with aspartame but I had no idea of the dangers then, I just liked the taste and a bottle sat beside me at my computers. I was drinking about a litre/day.

By December my legs were agony and I had lost all feeling in my feet. I was experiencing weird feelings as though a small fire cracker was fizzing momentarily in my legs, likely the nerves being burned out I learned later. Driving a standard shift car has been “fun” I’ll tell you.  The quack (supposedly a Medical Doctor who had a large jar of Equal (aspartame) on his coffee table) had no idea of what was wrong but said I was a diabetic. All my life I was told I had high blood sugar but no readings were given and no one mentioned diabetes till them. I was extremely healthy and if I had to see a doctor once in ten years it was surprising. He had no solution so I went my merry way.

Finally in August 1995 I got an out of the blue email listing the 92 ailments and diseases that the FDA had just admitted to in a freedom of information action. (They now completely deny the document ever existed. Problem is I have a copy of it on my website. The direct link is
http://www.aspartame.ca/fdasympt1.pdf

The email also suggested quitting use of aspartame for 6 weeks and see if one didn’t get better. A no cost test. Problem is that aspartame can be as addictive as cocaine. Fortunately I am extremely strong willed.

I read the list nodding many times as I recognized symptoms, Memory Blanks, Dizzy Spells, Temper Explosions, Loss of Feeling, Leg Pain, Headaches etc etc, so right there I stopped all intake and started reading labels.  Within three days Memory Dizzy and Temper problems ceased. Most of the pain went from my legs in a little over a week. I waited three months and then starting on a Monday ate and drank exactly the same thing till Friday. Saturday I drank 4 ounces of the Key Lime pop and within 20 minutes my legs were screaming agony again.  I got a temper explosion and slight memory loss again. It took almost a week for the pain in my legs to subside and except for occasional accidental doses as when having a desert in a restaurant or a friends house I don’t knowingly touch it. Each time I get even the smallest dose my legs are agony within 20 minutes and each time it hits me harder. The last dose put me completely bedridden for a week except to crawl to the kitchen to feed the cat. I hardly ate or drank anything I was in too much pain. I had got poisoned again by a very small piece of lemon flavoured pound cake which bore no mention of aspartame on the label but was in violation of our Canadian labeling laws.  Then my legs collapsed and the quack suggested I’d likely not walk again. A week later I was shuffling about with a cane. So much for Doctors.

That’s briefly what happened so now lets look at what has helped me. I am far from free of neuropathy by vastly improved despite the medical industry repeatedly trying to kill me with wrongly prescribed drugs and more recently a botched hernia operation. I still have an open wound on my abdomen which a nurse comes and packs daily. Colloidal silver ensures no infection.

I take quite a range of vitamins and minerals especially Magnesium oxide, 830 mg 2x/day, Calcium, Vit E, Vit C, Gingko Biloba, Gotu Kola, Beta Carotene, Zinc, Niacinamide and B6.

I give myself a daily 1cc shot of Vitamin B12 in my upper arm. Had I known years ago I would have taken it sooner as there appears to be considerable research that B12 by inoculation is very good for reducing neuropathy. Naturally no medical industry genius I have ever met knows anything about that. Its prescription free here but I get my local quack to prescribe 30 ml when needed and since I am on a low income it costs me C$2.00 instead of about C$18. Then about a year ago I found out about BENFOTIAMINE.

Benfotiamine is an artificial and much more active version of Vitamin B1 (Thiamine). There is a good rundown on it, the original being at
http://drbvitamins.com/nutritionalproducts_details.asp?id=8

From my research on the internet I understand that it has been used in Europe for Neuropathy for several years and they suggest taking larger doses than one 150 mg capsule a day. I take three 2 capsule doses of 150 mg a day between meals.  The price varies quite widely. The one I get is made by “Doctors Best” and the cheapest source is from a Health Food firm in Florida.

Within a few days of stating taking it I felt a difference in my legs to the point that just before I went for the loused up hernia operation I was walking pretty well but with a small amount of discomfort. After I escaped the hospitals, two of them where I was imprisoned for nearly three weeks on God awful food I couldn’t eat and which made my blood sugar soar into the 20+ mmol/l  (360+ mg/dl) I couldn’t walk without a walker.

I threw the endocrinologist who bragged that he advises the Canadian Diabetic Association out of my room and barred him from working on my case when in answer to my question as to what he knew of aspartame replied, “Its perfectly safe”.  BS. It had changed my DNA so I grew a pair of C cup breasts in 23 days and the same 23 days my shoe size went from a lifetime 11 to 13, now 16 4E.  My breasts have vanished since the hernia and I have gone from 240 lb on Jan 30/06 to 180 lb as of today 26 July 06. I filed a complaint with the hospital that he was incompetent but you know how far that will go.

While in the hospital I was in somewhat of a daze and they managed to hit me with four shots of insulin which I didn’t want.  I walked into the hospital but I needed a wheel chair to escape and a walker to get around home. I am 78 and  live alone with my cat and computers.

Back to the Benfotiamine and believe me I was worried what with hardly being able to walk and nurses coming in every day to pack the wound. In just a week after coming home I needed groceries and forced myself to walk to my car and go shopping with the aid of a cane. My legs were dead tired when I got home but felt better. I now go and walk the entire local Costco store daily with a buggy helping me. Good safe place if anything happened. I have since found that the Japanese have discovered that giving shots of insulin make neuropathy far worse, hence the problem I experienced.

Another point too is that it appears that MSG also makes neuropathy worse and is synergistic with aspartame making a pretty deadly mixture since aspartame reacts with almost all drugs. It lowers the serotonin levels and if you are taking a drug that also does that such as Prozac you my end up committing suicide. It does have that effect.

Note that NO diet drink ever lost you any weight. You will gain weight no loose it. Want to get fat? Aspartame is where its at.

I hope this information will help those of you that choose to try it. It appears to be working for me.

Note that I am not an MD or Health Care professional, just a long studying victim of aspartame poisoning and neuropathy and a “Doctor of Wires” My Ph.D. is in electrical engineering and I am a retired Police Officer.

All the very best to you all.
